Redesigned Website Launched

After a bit of a delay the redesigned Small Farm Design website has launched. I am still in the process of refining the new website and working out the kinks (if you see anything amiss feel free to let me know) and there is still content that needs to be moved over and then formatted for the new layout. I’m hoping to get this all wrapped up within the next few days.

Feel free to leave your comments about the new design. I’d love to hear your feedback.

I’ve Been Hacked

I’m just digging into this but it appears Small Farm Design has been hacked.

Recently I’ve noticed that my site has been running incredibly slow and I had a few clients comment on the site speed. After talking to my hosting company I started to look into my files. I noticed hundreds and hundreds of links to porn, Viagra and other things that should never be on Small Farm Design.

It appears this is happening on a larger scale than just my site (PsionMark writes about his attack, GoogleLady writes about her attack and Jason Tan writes about his attack). But as others have pointed out this hasn’t been making any headlines.

I’m currently working to re-secure my site and hope to eliminate this annoyance. Also I want to apologize if you have received anything in my feed other than the intended article. I hope to have this resolved soon.

The Diluted Thanksgiving Experience

Thanksgiving has come and gone and I wonder if anyone really noticed?

Halloween generates a fair amount of buzz as does Christmas but sandwiched in between those two is a holiday that anymore seems to be just a pass-through day to the “real” holiday, Black Friday. Thanksgiving, the day before Black Friday, Black Friday Eve.

The most recent sales figures seem to emphasize this thought:

  • Online spending was up 29% ($272 million) Thanksgiving Day and up 22% ($531 million) on Black Friday
  • comScore expects Cyber Monday sales be even stronger than Black Friday’s and to exceed $700 million
  • ShopperTrak RCT Corp., stated total sales rose 8.3% to about $10.3 billion on Friday

Headlines in the media are all about Black Friday:

  • Midnight shopping lures Black Friday hordes CNN
  • Stores Lure Shoppers Before Black Friday Forbes
  • Black Friday carries retailers’ hopes for profitable holidays San Fransisco Chronicle

What happened to the experience of gathering together on Thanksgiving, eating turkey, stuffing and pumpkin pie, watching football and giving thanks for what is truly meaningful?

Updated Website

So it’s finally complete, well complete for now. Small Farm Design has been updated with the largest addition to this site being the new design and experience blog. My goal is to provide information for small businesses that will help them when selecting a designer, figuring out if a website redesign is necessary, or to provide assistance in creating the best user experience.

I hope you find something useful while you are here. If you don’t please feel free to ask questions or request something specific and I’ll do my best to fulfill the request.

Welcome to the Farm.
